A psychologist holds a doctorate (Ph.D.) in HUMAN BEHAVIOR, viewing many problems as learned maladaptive behaviors, whereas a psychiatrist has a medical degree (M.D.) and tends to view mental problems as illnesses. As a Clinical Psychologist I am trained in multiple treatment modalities, so that I can tailor my approach to your particular needs and personality. I am able to evaluate if medications are appropriate for your problems, and to make referrals to my psychiatrist and/or primary care physician colleagues if medication would be a helpful adjunct to "talK" therapy.
Marriage and Family Therapists and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (MFTs and LCSWs) are Master's Degree level therapists trained to treat individuals and families. I possess a Master's degree in Psychology as well as a Doctoral degree in Psychology, equating to six years of graduate training beyond the Bachelor's degree.
